An application programming interface is a defined method by which software systems request, exchange, or update data and actions. In procurement architecture, an API can support object-level handoffs among the orchestration layer, ERP, identity services, document tools, or other approved systems. Authentication, authorization, mapping, validation, monitoring, error handling, and ownership remain part of the implementation design.
